I had the good fortune to photograph 46238 in steam at her home shed of Carlisle (Upperby) in the coming August but she was to last only a month after that.

Old Pix Brought to the Fore
One that got away. Stanier Princess 4-6-2 No. 46200 ' Princess Royal has been stored pending the preservation that never happened. The loco is seen here awaiting her fate at Carlisle (Upperby) on August 26th 1964. 46200 had been a Kingmoor engine and had languished pending her fate since withdrawal nearly 2 years previously. Her end was nigh though as she was cut up at Coatbridge only a month after this shot was taken.Previous | NextStanier 8F 48744 has been bulled up for the last day of steam at Buxton shed on March 4th 1968. Most of the locos atround that day were in quite decrepit external condition. 48744 was, apparently, a Bolton-based engine at this time but she was withdrawn the month after this pic was taken.
