Top 10 viewed images Welcome to my Transport Archive Gallery Sales from this site
1. Diesel 10001 (with stock) @ Carpenders Park in colour. Thank you for viewing my gallery of archive images and I hope that you derive as much enjoyment from it as the thousands of viewers thus far.

All images are created from original film material from a steadily growing archive of negatives dating back about 100 years and colour slides from the late 50’s onwards.

At the time of writing this the scanning accent is on trams, trolleybuses and half-cab buses prior to circa 1956 whilst future work will include European & Scandinavian tram systems for the period 1948 – 1957 as well as their railway and metro activities.

If you have a wish list then please feel free to contact me via the 'Leave a Message' box on the left side of this page.

    British Railways steam
Gresley A3 pacific 60097 Humorist was a bit of an oddball in that she was the testbed for experiments with Kylchap exhaust, double chimney and smoke deflectors as far back as 1937. However, the condition in which she's depicted here is purely BR in origin as she was fitted with Peppercorn A2 style smoke deflectors in 1949 but it would be nearly a decade before many of the other A3's would be enhanced with double chimneys and a very different style of deflectors. This shot was taken at Carlisle canal shed in 1963 and one suspects that she had already reached the end of her operational days as she was officially withdrawn from 64A St. Margaret's in August of that year.

    British Railways steam
This is more about the location than the stock. An unidentifiable BR Standard 2MT 2-6-0 awaits departure from Hope & Penyffordd station on the Chester - Denbigh line probbaly just prior to the ex-LNWR station's closure on 30/4/62.

Stanier pacific 46238 'CITY OF CARLISLE' is nicely lit at Willesden shed in June 1964 not long before all the class survivors were summarily and surprisingly withdrawn. I had the good fortune to photograph 46238 in steam at her home shed of Carlisle (Upperby) in the coming August but she was to last only a month after that.  Steam on shed - part the second  (20)

    Longmoor Military Railway
Longmoor hosted several preservation projects at the end of the 1960's and one of the best known is the housing of Bulleid pacific 34023 Blackmore Vale. She was steamed on occasions and we see her here reversing into the works/shed yard area on March 24th, 1968.

10th miscellany: more questions than answers.
A recently acquired pile of poor negatives elicited about 10% that were of any use to me. Just over half of them were mysteries to me but viewers have kindly provided a wealth of data which has now been included in the captions. If you have answers to the remaining questions then please use the 'Comment' button at the bottom of each image page. Thank you.

    Archive diesel picures of ex-LMSR 10000 & 10001 in colour & B & W
These two locomotives were introduced with the intention of providing the future motive power on former LMSR metals but were found to be underpowered. They had a stint on the lines out of Waterloo in the early 50's about which I know little although I do remember seeing one.

They returned to the WCML where they survived for a surprisingly long time despite being non-standard and underpowered. They ended their days mostly on semi-fasts from Euston to Bletchley as depicted in one of the colour images in this collection.
